Home Educate

Based in Ockley Dorking, the Unicorns are prepared to share their stable with young people who are eager to learn but do not want to be in a formal school.

The stable is not a school, it is a home education support centre.

We have three options open to home educators and their families.

• Parents may attend our evening support groups and learn how to deliver a vibrant, challenging, motivating learning experience in their own homes. We will have lesson packs to share, complete with all materials and will happily run what is called “sharing good practice” sessions in which we discuss how to teach core maths skills, develop English skills, Science concepts, share humanities and art topics.
• Parents who want their young person in an alternative learning environment but feel they are not the best person to deliver Maths, English, Humanities, Science, Art and Craft and team sports to their own offspring, may consider enrolling their colt into the structured provision available Monday -Wednesday in the Stable. (year 10 and 11 science will be available on a Friday)
• Parents and students who love the freedom to dip in and out of enrichment opportunities but love working independently on acquiring core subject knowledge, may join our Freedom Thursday and Freaky Friday events which will be wide and varied.

Obviously, you will wish to meet with us and discuss our ethos, our experience, our safeguarding and look at our environment before entrusting your young person to our team. Thus, we are offering parents information sessions on the following dates. Come join us for a cuppa!

Saturday  24^th August 10-12 noon Parents of Years 5, 6, 7, 8 –  24 places.

2pm-4pm Parents of years 9, 10, 11 – 18 places

And repeat Saturday 31^st August same times.

These sessions are free of charge. However if you wish to make a small donation for tea, coffee, and cake you will be most welcome to so do.

Once you feel ready to enrol your young person in our groups, and have taken some trial lessons, we will offer you a private meeting to learn more about your young persons unique characteristics, strengths and challenges and work with you to complete all paperwork.
